The Hidalgo County in Texas has received nationwide recognition for its deployment of GPS tracking. The Texas association of Counties awarded Hidalgo County a Best Practice Award for its vehicular GPS program.

The GPS tracking initiative has already saved the county more than $25000 and is continuing to save money every day. Unnecessary expenditures are being reduced due to the detailed tracking abilities. Fuel consumption has reduced considerably. Overspeeding and idling incidents have also come down remarkably ever since the drivers are aware of the GPS program. The system alerts the County officials whenever an employee drive above the speed limit or go outside the County limit without authorization or is spending too much time idling.

Best Practice Awards are given to highlight whats working in Counties so that other Counties can see and replicate those initiatives.
